If you need to reassess today’s Connections puzzle, there are a lot of different ways to look at each one and get the right answers. You will have four chances to get the right answers, but you might have some trouble with this one. There are some odd groups in this one, but it is doable if you know where to look. There are some good ways to get out of this one, and I can tell them all to you.
The NYT’s Letter Boxed Puzzle is one of the most challenging of the daily puzzles, but I find it a little more relaxing simply because there is no limit to the number of guesses. It’s a fun experiment to sit and play with the letters available to you, allowing you to bounce around the walls and come up with words as often as you want. It might take a little longer to get to the right answers, but it is very satisfying when you do.
Today’s Connections Category Hints
MARCH 14 #642
If you are trying to find the right answers, I have some hints to help you get to them without too much trouble. There are some potential stumbles in this puzzle, although on the whole, I found it a little easier than other ones I’ve had to solve. There is one interesting word in the puzzle, which can either give the category away or make it really hard to guess depending on how you feel when you see it. To help you out, here are four hints to help you get the right answers:
- One category is about something you might get for doing something wrong
- One category is about things you can find in a particular place at the store
- One category is about four different types of the same kind of media
- One category is about four words that come before a different word in a phrase – that word is something you likely have to encounter every time you leave your home

I got this one second, and I think it was a little tougher than it looks. LEVY, FINE, and CHARGE all look normal to me, but ASSESS. Or, at the very least, it’s different enough to me to make it stand out. ASSESS is more of a word to calculate what someone might owe, as opposed to imposing the FINE. Google has since told me that it is like the third definition of the word ASSESS, but it still has a slightly different feel to me than the other words.

CHARGING CABLE |
MAGAZINE |
This was the first category I got correct, and it was for a few different reasons. To me, it was more like things that you might take with you on a trip, and I picked these words thinking in those terms. Although to be fair, a stand at the airport is very much like a stand at the checkout line. I personally have never bought most of these items in a checkout line, as I am picky about CHAPSTICK, CABLES, and MAGAZINES, but I do very much buy CANDY at the checkout line when it strikes my fancy.

FILM SERIES was the interesting word that I found when solving this puzzle. It’s interesting to actually include “film” in the word as it’s a fairly big tip-off for a harder category. It’s one of those things where I might not have gotten this category at all if they just left it at “series.” Maybe they felt it would be too hard without it, but I would be interested to hear what others have to say. I also feel like it could push people away from the right answer, if they see that and think it’s there to trick us.

ROCKY |
SILK |
I got this one last, and I’m not surprised. It’s definitely the hardest one to get today, although depending on your preference for ROCKY road ice cream, you might find it easier. I think it is interesting that only one of these is actually a road that you might drive on – although I suppose there are rocky roads, but I rarely hear them called that. It’s usually much more specific about the type of rocks, but it doesn’t matter that much.
