Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski became just the third player to reach 100 goals in the Champions League when he opened the scoring for the Catalan giants against Brest.

The 36-year-old successfully converted  10th-minute penalty to put Hansi Flick’s side 1-0 up against European Cup debutants on Tuesday night.

The strike saw the Poland star join Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the only footballers to reach triple figures in Europe’s premier competition.

The striker’s first goal in the competition came in a 3-1 defeat against Olympiacos in 2011, while playing for Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund. He went on to score 17 goals for the side before his move to Bayern Munich in 2014.

Lewandowski enjoyed a prolific spell in Bavaria, scoring 69 times in the Champions League and helping the Bundesliga giants claim their sixth European Cup in 2020.

The forward’s historic century includes six hat-tricks and two occasions when he found the net four times, against Real Madrid and Red Star.

Lewandowski is one of only two players in the top 10 of the Champions League all-time top scorer standings still playing in European competition. His former Bayern team-mate Thomas Muller sits in eighth with 54 goals in the competition.

Meanwhile, the striker still has some way to go to catch Ronaldo and Messi at the top. The Argentine, now plying his trade in MLS with Inter Miami has 129 goals, while Al Nassr’s Ronaldo leads the way on 141.
