Matt Orr struck twice and Everton Camargo scored a fabulous goal to earn Hong Kong a fine 3-1 victory over the Philippines on an absorbing night in Causeway Bay.
The red-hot Orr’s 44th-minute strike was cancelled out by Bjorn Kristensen’s neat finish three minutes after half-time at a fired-up Hong Kong Stadium.
But the home side gained their second straight victory under new head coach Ashley Westwood following an 83rd-minute piece of brilliance from Camargo, and Orr’s stoppage-time header.
With the scores locked at 1-1, substitute Sun Ming-him arrowed a low pass from a tight spot in midfield to the advancing Camargo.
The snake-hipped forward manoeuvred the ball away from closest defender Jefferson Tabinas, and goalkeeper Kevin Mendoza, before rolling the ball home for his sixth goal in 11 internationals.
Camargo has missed a succession of away games since his debut last year, but Hong Kong’s bosses will surely do all they can to get him on a plane, especially with qualification for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup finals beginning early next year.
