Doha is a city full of surprises. Which is why, during Condé Nast Traveler‘s inaugural Points of View summit in the Middle East, we partnered with Visit Qatar to ensure that the attending travel specialists—many of whom were visiting for the first time—had chance to discover some of Doha’s most intriguing attractions.
Following an insightful day of expert-led conversations that covered everything from wellness and culture to food, AI, and immersive travel, the Condé Nast Traveler team, including global editorial director Divia Thani, and its group of trusted travel experts joined Visit Qatar for a day exploring Doha. Here’s what they got up to.
How to spend the perfect day in Doha
Wander through the colorful Mina District
Start the day with a wander through the pastel streets of the newly renovated Mina District. What once stood as Doha’s old port has undergone a major transformation in recent years, emerging as a new waterfront neighborhood where traditional fish markets sit alongside cool coffee shops and colorful street art. It’s here visiting cruise ships dock for a day of exploring the capital, so head early to avoid the crowds. Once you’ve strolled through the charming streets (and stopped for plenty of photo ops along the way), you’ll be rewarded with a perfect view of Doha’s impressive skyline across the water.
Visit the Museum of Islamic Art
Qatar has no shortage of impressive museums and cultural institutions, but if you only have time to see one, head to the Museum of Islamic Art. Not only is the museum home to thousands of fascinating pieces from across the region—from exquisite centuries-old textiles and glassware to calligraphy, jewelry, and ceramics—the building itself is a sight to behold. Designed by I. M. Pei, the monolithic structure stands alone on an island, as if rising from the waters. Don’t miss the gallery that explores where the legendary architect found the inspiration for his iconic design.
Head to Heenat Salma Farm for lunch
Around 30 minutes outside the city, Heenat Salma Farm shows a slower, more sedate side of the city. Here, owner and CEO, His Excellency Fahad Mohammed Al Attiyah, has worked to create a community around agriculture and promote farm-to-table dining in a part of the world which has—traditionally—relied heavily on imports. Lunch is served al fresco under the shade of ghaf trees, filling the table with colorful plates of crunchy fattoush salads, homemade herby hummus, and tender chicken machboos. After lunch, take a tour of the farm’s extensive grounds, from weaving and woodwork workshops to horse-filled stables and organic vegetable patches.
