Thanksgiving in the US, your average Thursday everywhere else, but football the world over. In North America that means the Chicago Bears being their typically clumsy selves, and in London, it’s another opportunity for Tottenham to display their comic ability to throw away a win.

Either way, another week of European competition has come and gone, and does anyone really care? Honestly, like being fed too much turkey, the overstuffed feeling is starting to creep in, while the leftovers of the Conference League are becoming less appealing by the day.

Still, there was the sweet taste of success to savour for some overnight, so, here’s what happened while you were sleeping.

Spurs doing Spurs things

A great game for the neutral, and probably if you’re a Roma fan, not so much for the long-suffering Spurs supporters among us. Defence, what’s that?

The home side had 24 shots on goal, but allowed Roma to take 18 in a 2-2 Europa League draw that dropped Ange Postecoglou’s side out of the automatic qualification places. They are ninth in the table.

Son Heung-min gave Tottenham the lead in the fifth minute from the penalty spot, Evan Ndicka equalised for Roma 15 minutes later, before Brennan Johnson restored Spurs’ advantage shortly before half-time. True to form, Postecoglou’s team conceded from a set piece in injury time, with Mats Hummels scoring from a corner.

Rangers, who won 4-1 away at Nice, are eighth, above Spurs on goal difference. Those sides meet at Ibrox on December 12 for what should be a classic Battle of Britain.

A festive cracker

Rasmus Hojlund scored twice as Manchester United came out on top 3-2 in a chaotic Europa League encounter against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday, giving Ruben Amorim a win in his first home game at Old Trafford.
