Accor has expanded its presence in Portugal by opening its latest property, the Mercure Ponta Delgada Azores. Located in the heart of Ponta Delgada, the hotel is set in the restored Pensão Central, a historic building on the city’s main shopping street.

The Mercure Ponta Delgada Azores offers guests a fusion of past and present, with a design focused on sustainability and energy efficiency. The hotel has 75 guestrooms, two outdoor swimming pools for adults and children, a spa equipped with a sauna, Turkish bath, a Vichy shower, and meeting facilities capable of accommodating up to 60 guests.

The interior design reflects the natural beauty of São Miguel, from volcanic landscapes to verdant tea fields. Upon arrival, guests are met with vintage suitcases, maps, compasses, and travel artifacts that aim to connect them with the history and spirit of the destination.

The hotel also features the Bruma Bar, where guests can enjoy cocktails and dishes made with local Azorean ingredients. The menu nods to island living, offering dishes that reflect the flavors and creativity of the region.

The Mercure Ponta Delgada Azores staff have compiled a range of guest recommendations, accessible via a QR code. These include visiting the Porto Formoso Tea Factory, where guests can experience a traditional tea brewing process or witness a period-costumed tea harvest each May.

The opening of the Mercure Ponta Delgada Azores marks a significant milestone for Accor, as it now operates 38 hotels across Portugal. The hotel’s debut also coincides with Mercure’s recent celebrations of its 50th anniversary in 2023 and the brand’s achievement of surpassing 1,000 hotels worldwide in 2024.
