Accor and Propreal Capital Partners have announced a partnership to open Sofitel Porto, a luxury hotel, in 2028. This expansion marks the second collaboration between the two companies, following the previous success of Sofitel Barcelona Skipper.

The new hotel will be strategically situated between Avenida dos Aliados and Rua de Santa Catarina, in the heart of Porto, the second-largest city in Portugal. The location aims to enhance luxury hospitality in the vibrant city.

Sofitel Porto will have 132 rooms and feature extensive public areas, various dining concepts, possibly in collaboration with renowned Portuguese chefs, and a blend of tranquil and lively spaces. These are intended to cater to international travelers’ and Porto’s local community. In addition to the interior, the hotel will offer designed green spaces, providing a natural element within the city’s bustling setting.

The hotel’s design will be led by Lázaro Rosa-Violán, who plans to merge Sofitel’s signature style with the rich cultural heritage of Porto. The property’s façade will be preserved, while the interior will reflect a sophisticated blend of Portuguese artistry and French refinement. The restoration will focus on reviving the building’s original splendor, celebrating the city’s rich design traditions.

Accor and Propreal Capital Partners have identified this as an opportunity to expand Accor’s luxury hospitality footprint in Porto. Sofitel Porto will be a flagship for the brand in the Iberian Peninsula, marking Accor’s first luxury hotel in Porto and its second Sofitel in Portugal, alongside Sofitel Lisbon Avenida Liberdade. Accor already runs several hotels in the city under the Novotel, Mercure, and ibis brands.

Maud Bailly, CEO of Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery, and Emblems, expressed excitement about the project. She highlighted Porto’s deep cultural and historical identity and stated that the hotel would strengthen the connection between Portugal and France. Bailly further emphasized the commitment to delivering a luxury experience that blends Porto’s rich heritage with Sofitel’s timeless elegance.
