And Slot spoke about Bradley and Konate as he addressed the media on Thursday ahead of his team’s Premier League showdown with Manchester City at the weekend. “They are still being assessed so it’s difficult to see how they are,” explained the Dutchman.

“Let’s wait and see, but it’s never a good sign. Conor, we had to take him off, and Ibou didn’t walk off the pitch as he should after the fantastic game he played. Not a good sign.”

The former Feyenoord boss then offered some positive news on Trent Alexander-Arnold, who returned to the bench against Real after missing Sunday’s victory over Southampton.

“Konate and Bradley are still being assessed – [it’s still] so close to last night – and I have just come off the training pitch, so we have to wait and see,” he explained. “Trent is fit enough to start [against City], yes.”

And Slot then outlined why he hasn’t spoken at depth about the team’s absentees as he added: “In general, people only talk about injuries if results aren’t there, so it is good people don’t talk about them.

“But the moment you start to lose it is about kick-off times or injuries, but nine out of 10 times it is quality of gameplan or quality of other team. If the replacements do so well for our injured players, it’s normal they don’t talk about the injuries.

“Missing Alisson, [Diogo] Jota, Trent – players who have had impact on results… But it is good we don’t talk about it much.”

Liverpool’s victory over Real means they are two points ahead of Inter Milan at the top of the Champions League table. The Merseyside giants are also a staggering eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table and will be aiming to extend their lead when second-place City visit Anfield on Sunday.
