Packing for winter travel comes with its unique set of challenges (like figuring out how to stuff an ankle-length winter coat into a carry-on), but dressing for the airport in colder months is a simple endeavor since you’ll be in a chilly environment from takeoff to touchdown. A thick, fleece sweatsuit and cozy pair of shoes is all you need to stay comfortable. Once temperatures start to pick up, planes can become unbearably hot before takeoff — no matter how much you mess with the air nozzles above your seat.

That’s why in the spring and summer time, it’s crucial to pick out an airport outfit that’s cozy but can still keep you cool, on and off the plane. I’m kicking things off with a pair of lightweight, practical hiking pants. I’m pairing it with a drop-shoulder crop t-shirt. This short-sleeved tee is made with a moisture-wicking spandex-blend fabric to keep you cool on hikes, walks, and runs. Simple in design and perfectly oversized, the roomy t-shirt keeps you comfortable on the plane and during any outdoor activity you’ve got on your itinerary. 

To help you breeze through security, I’ve picked out these $30 genuine suede clogs. Not only are they easy to slip in and out of, but they’re also built with soft, arch-supporting molded footbeds to make them comfortable enough for hours of wear. The ultimate year-round shoe, these will carry your travel wardrobe into spring, summer, and beyond.

The return of warm weather means an uptick in outdoor concerts and festivals. Because some venues and stadiums have a strict clear bag policy for attendees, I’m finishing this outfit with a clear sling bag that won’t be turned away at any event. This stadium-approved bag has a wide, thick adjustable crossbody strap to wear on or across your shoulder and a large, zippered main compartment large enough to hold your phone, wallet, keys, sunglasses, and cosmetics. This short-sleeved set is on sale for $29 — an absolute steal when you consider the fact that it can be worn together or separate, multiplying the amount of outfits you’re traveling with. Carried in up to a size 3XL and made with a soft, stretchy knit jacquard fabric, it will keep you comfortable on long-haul flights. 

It’s a pain to have to untie your shoes at TSA (especially if you’re traveling with little ones). So for this look, I’m throwing in a pair of $29 stretchy, slip-on loafers for convenience. These breathable slip-ons have elastic laces allowing you to step in and out of them hands-free. They’re stylish and versatile enough to wear on a wide variety of excursions, meaning you can travel with less footwear. 

Another convenient hack for decreasing airport stress is to wear all of your must-have essentials on your person, rather than stashing them in your backpack or carry-on. A small belt bag or sling bag, like this $24 Waterfly bag, allows you to keep your most important items close to the chest (literally) so you don’t have to go hunting for them at your gate or on the plane.

Figuring out what to wear on a business trip can be tricky, especially if you aren’t quite sure of what each day’s itinerary will entail. Leave your slacks and button-ups at home and allow me to introduce you to my favorite workwear piece for spring: Jumpsuits! 

Comfy and easy to style up or down, jumpsuits take much of the guesswork out of outfit planning. On sale for $40 and available in 24 colors, this Prettygarden option has wide, flowy pant legs and a sleeveless, mock-neck top to keep you cool on warm outings while staying office-appropriate. 

Instead of a backpack or duffel, I’m pairing this outfit with a simple, roomy faux leather tote. This soft bag comes in several neutral colors complimenting any style, and it’s roomy enough to hold a laptop, paperwork, water bottle, toiletry case, and any other last-minute essentials you might be bringing along — a feature making it a “great work bag,” according to one shopper. Once you’ve unpacked and settled into your hotel, use this bag as your daily driver for the duration of the trip.

Work trips call for comfortable, elevated footwear, and these $27 Frank Mully loafers deliver on both fronts. The key to packing light is bringing clothes to suit several events on your itinerary. The more versatile your travel wardrobe is, the less you have to stuff into your carry-on.
