Wendy Williams has recently spoken out against her guardianship, claiming that she feels like she’s been imprisoned and is not cognitively impaired, despite previous reports.

What did Wendy Williams say about her guardianship?

Williams recently called into The Breakfast Club radio show, and pushed back against various claims that she was suffering from dementia and aphasia.

“Do I seem that way, god damn it?” Williams asked (via Variety) when the diagnosis was brought up. “I am not cognitively impaired, you know what I’m saying? But I feel like I’m in prison. I’m in this place where the people are in their 90s and their 80s and their 70s … There’s something wrong with these people here on this floor.”

Williams was also joined by her niece, Alex, on the show, who corroborated the story. According to Alex, the apartment in the care facility that Williams lives in has “a bed, a chair, a TV, a bathroom and she’s looking out one window at buildings across the street. That’s her life.”

Williams’ niece also claimed that Williams had no access to the internet at her apartment, nor is she able to receive calls from loved ones. “This is what is called emotional abuse,” said her niece.

The former talk show host went on to say that she hopes to soon move out of New York City and to Miami to be with her family. She said that she’s unsure if she’ll be able to visit her father for his upcoming 94th birthday, and cried when describing the situation she was in.

“I am exhausted thinking about, what if I can’t see my dad for his birthday? At 94, the day after that is not promised,” Williams said. “My life is, like, f—ed up.”

Last year, Williams’ team released a statement on her behalf, revealing that the longtime actress and former talk show host had been receiving care at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, and had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. At the time, the statement said that Williams was able to do many things for herself.
