Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives, wants to revisit Wisteria Lane in a prequel reboot series. The original show went on for eight seasons on ABC and was a cultural phenomenon, winning multiple Emmys and inspiring numerous international adaptations.

In a new interview, Cherry expressed his desire to make a prequel reboot of Desperate Housewives. He referred to Wisteria Lane, the predominant setting of the show, as a character and stated that he missed writing about the fictional street the most.

“I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade,” Cherry told People. “Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane. That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had, because we owned the whole street. I know that street like the back of my hand. When someone shoots a commercial on that street, I know it instantly, because I know all those houses, I know the geography. It was such a fun place to write for,” he added.

Cherry also pitched exactly when the prequel could potentially take place. “And there’s times when I go, ‘You know what? I wonder if I could write Wisteria Lane in like, 1966,’” he speculated.

The Devious Maids creator added that there was a part of him that would “love to go back and do it again” equipped with the experience he had garnered over the years. “If you do a reboot, you have to have a really good artistic reason to do it,” he elaborated. “And at some point, I’ll sit down with someone and go, ‘Okay, let’s talk about if there’s a good enough why to do it,’” Cherry stated.

Desperate Housewives is currently streaming on Hulu and Prime Video. Its cast features Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Eva Longoria.
