Wyndham Hotels & Resorts and Soliteight Hotel Projects SA have announced plans to bring the Super 8 brand to Spain and Portugal, aiming to open 40 new hotels over the next decade.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts and Soliteight Hotel Projects SA have signed an exclusive development agreement to introduce the Super 8 brand to Spain and Portugal. Soliteight, an established hotel development and investment company, will develop and operate the 40 hotels that will open in the next ten years.

The Super 8 brand is recognized globally for its hospitality, trusted quality, and great value. The move to introduce the brand to Spain and Portugal comes in response to the growing number of budget-conscious travelers in these countries and the increasing demand for reliable, high-quality economy accommodations.

The first of these hotels is slated to open in Leiria, Portugal, in the last quarter of 2027. Other development locations have been planned in prime locations across Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities, including key travel hubs such as airports, busy retail areas, and along popular transportation routes in smaller cities.

This strategic move to bring the Super 8 brand to Spain and Portugal is driven by booming tourism, shifting travel trends, and a growing demand for quality, affordable accommodations. In 2024, Spain welcomed 94 million international visitors, while Portugal also saw significant tourism growth. Spain’s strong economic performance, with a 3.2% GDP increase that same year, further fuels domestic and business travel, particularly in secondary cities and emerging markets.

The Super 8 by Wyndham is well-positioned to fill the gap in the market, offering reliable, high-quality, and affordable lodging. Spain and Portugal lag behind other European markets in branded economy hotels, with a 10% gap in budget brand penetration, despite a 142% increase in RevPAR since 2019.
