A popular luxury U.S. train is expanding in the West. 

Since 2021, a glamorous locomotive has been taking travelers through Utah and Colorado under Rocky Mountaineer’s Rockies to the Red Rocks route. As of next year, alongside a rebrand from Rocky Mountaineer to Canyon Spirit, a new journey will add Salt Lake City to the scenic route.

Canyon Spirit’s three-day trip will go from Denver to Salt Lake City, with stops in Moab, Utah, and Glenwood Springs, Colorado. While on board, passengers enjoy panoramic glass ceilings that bring the outdoors into the train. Several cars also have outdoor viewing platforms for a breath of fresh air amid the scenic views.

“The additional day of train travel will traverse the mountain passes of eastern Utah and the open vistas of the Great Basin while connecting to the urban hub of Salt Lake City,” the company said in a release provided to Travel + Leisure.

Additional services include a variety of hosts and culinary staff who lead activities and sightseeing, plus multi-course menus that feature locally sourced ingredients.

“We could not be more excited to bring our Canyon Spirit train to Salt Lake City, and to expand our Rockies to the Red Rocks route further into the beautiful state of Utah,” Tristan Armstrong, the CEO of Armstrong Collective, the parent company of Canyon Spirit and Rocky Mountaineer, said in a statement.

While operating as The Rocky Mountaineer, the train was routinely named one of the best trains in the world by T+L readers in the World’s Best Awards.

The new route to Salt Lake City begins on April 21, 2026, and starts at $2,123 plus tax, per person. Tickets are now available for purchase at thecanyonspirit.com.
