Crystal Lagoons is expanding its presence in the U.S. luxury hotel industry through a partnership with Woodbine Development Corporation. A two-acre lagoon is set to open at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio, Texas, in Q4 2025.

Crystal Lagoons, renowned for its pristine-water lagoon projects, has announced its expansion into the U.S. luxury hospitality industry through a partnership with Woodbine Development Corporation. The first project under this partnership is a two-acre lagoon at the award-winning Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio, Texas. The lagoon’s groundbreaking, which is part of a significant redevelopment plan, took place in June 2024. It is projected to be completed and open in Q4 2025.

The lagoon collaboration between Crystal Lagoons and Woodbine is part of a series of enhancements that Woodbine has been investing in since opening the resort in 1993. These enhancements include guestroom renovations, meeting space upgrades, and new dining options. The project includes five stand-alone villas with private patios and fire pits and a 5,600-square-foot meeting venue overlooking the lagoon.

Ivan Manzur, senior vice president of sales at Crystal Lagoons US Corp, stated that hotels and resorts always seek new and distinctive experiences that distinguish their destination and provide more value to their guests. According to Manzur, including a Crystal Lagoons’ lagoon in the redevelopment plan uniquely enhances the guest experience.

The lagoon, powered by Crystal Lagoons technology, offers travelers a novel way to enjoy the Texas sunshine. It complements the resort’s existing amenities, which include traditional pools, a water slide, a lazy river, a FlowRider surf experience, hiking trails, a spa, a fitness center, and a 27-hole golf course. Moreover, the lagoon will serve as a scenic backdrop for resort events and experiences.

Steven J. Smith, general manager of Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa, expressed excitement about enhancing the guest experience by adding the Crystal Lagoons amenity. He believes the lagoon will transform the resort’s Hill Country setting into a lush oasis and provide a premier beach experience in Central Texas.

Crystal Lagoons is expanding globally, with ongoing projects in several countries, including the United States, Indonesia, Romania, Mexico, and Uruguay. 

King Scovell, managing partner and chief development officer for Woodbine, emphasized the value of the partnership with Crystal Lagoons in enhancing the resort’s amenity lineup. He believes the lagoon will offer a differentiated experience for longtime guests, new travelers, and wedding and group customers.
