Beth Behrs has reflected on the cancellation of 2 Broke Girls following the final renewal of her current CBS show The Neighborhood. Since 2018, Behrs has starred as Gemma Johnson in the CBS sitcom, which follows her and Dave’s (Max Greenfield) move into a predominantly Black neighborhood as a white Midwestern family in Los Angeles. The network recently confirmed that The Neighborhood will end after its eighth season. The Neighborhood season 8 is expected to finish off with Behrs and Greenfield alongside Cedric the Entertainer and Tichina Arnold.
In a post Behrs shared on Instagram, she addressed the final season of The Neighborhood, which offered a different kind of closure compared to the abrupt cancellation of 2 Broke Girls. The 2010s sitcom followed Behrs and Kat Dennings as two struggling waitresses in New York City trying to launch a cupcake business. It ran for six seasons before CBS unexpectedly canceled it in 2017, leaving Max (Dennings) and Caroline (Behrs) without a proper sendoff. Read what Behrs had to say below:
Most of my 20s were on #2BrokeGirls, almost all of my 30s were on #TheNeighborhood and I’ll usher in my 40s as we end our story. @katdenningsss and I never got a goodbye or an end to our #2BrokeGirls story, and I’m just so grateful to @cbstv for a chance to say goodbye to GEMMA the right way.
These last 7 years with my @theneighborhood family has been some of the most memorable of my life. We made it through Covid, strikes, elections… and came out stronger. Forever grateful to our entire cast and crew- here’s to the best season yet! #SEASON8 let’s gooooo.
What This Means For The Neighborhood & 2 Broke Girls
The Neighborhood Ends As CBS Continues To Restructure
Though The Neighborhood has been a consistent ratings performer for CBS, the network’s decision to end the series reflects a larger shake-up within the CBS lineup. The sitcom’s conclusion follows the news of various other controversial CBS cancellation decisions, including FBI: International, FBI: Most Wanted, and S.W.A.T. While The Neighborhood was given an opportunity to properly close out its storyline between the Johnsons and the Butlers, Behrs’ reflection shows how rare that luxury can be after 2 Broke Girls was cut short.

2 Broke Girls gave audiences a highly relevant and relatable premise for its sitcom, and here are its ten best episodes according to IMDb.
Her 2 Broke Girls co-star has since moved on to new projects. Kat Dennings has joined Tim Allen in the ABC comedy series Shifting Gears, which premiered in January 2025. Meanwhile, CBS is not entirely moving on from The Neighborhood, as the network has greenlit a spinoff titled Crutch, starring Tracy Morgan. It appears CBS is following a model similar to franchises like The Big Bang Theory and its spinoff Young Sheldon, which made way for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, banking on expanding an established universe rather than letting a long-running sitcom dominate its lineup indefinitely.
Our Take On The Neighborhood’s Final Renewal
A Proper Goodbye Becomes A Rare TV Luxury
The end of The Neighborhood marks the close of one of CBS’ most hilarious and heartfelt sitcoms. The platform’s decision to greenlight Crutch rather than continue The Neighborhood hints at where the television industry is headed as spinoffs and franchise potential are prioritized over simply renewing successful series. For now, The Neighborhood gets the chance to end on its own terms, something Behrs is clearly grateful for—a stark contrast to the abrupt goodbye she and Kat Dennings never got with 2 Broke Girls.
