Popular YouTuber MrBeast has offered to buy TikTok as the date of its ban in the US comes closer. The short video-streaming platform is on the verge of being banned in the country due to a new law passed by US President Joe Biden.

The chatter around TikTok getting banned is taking over the internet. Now, renowned YouTuber and internet personality MrBeast has expressed his desire to buy the platform.

In a recent post on X, the YouTuber wrote, “Okay fine, I’ll buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned.” TikTok is set to get banned on January 19, 2025, under the new law passed by the Biden administration. The new law was signed in April 2024 by Biden. It called for TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to transfer the ownership of the platform to a US owner to prevent it from getting banned.

The Senate proposed in the law that the data that the platform collects of the users can be used by China for malpractices like blackmail and espionage, as per the Justice Department’s court filings. Hence, the Senate is urging for TikTok to be either sold to a US owner or banned in the country. If the application gets banned in the United States, approximately 170 million users will lose access to it. A hearing was also held at the Supreme Court on this matter on January 10.

Thus, if MrBeast goes on to acquire the ownership of TikTok, the app may not face the ban. Apart from the YouTuber, tech mogul Elon Musk is also on the list of people who are rumored to buy the platform. However, TikTok has denounced this rumor in an official statement.
