Her absence came as a surprise to some fans, especially given her popularity at the event the previous year. At last year’s Golden Globes, she and longtime friend Selena Gomez shared a viral conversation. 

Along with skipping the Golden Globes, Swift also missed the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 18 game against the Denver Broncos. This continued her pattern of not attending away games throughout the season. While she was a frequent presence at home games in Arrowhead Stadium, she opted not to travel to Denver for the final regular season match. The Chiefs had already secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
