Daniel Craig and Challengers’ Luca Guadagnino are looking to reunite for DC’s Sgt. Rock movie.

In September 2024, it was reported that Guadagnino was looking to potentially helm a Sgt. Rock movie for DC Studios. Along with Challengers, Guadagnino recently directed Queer, a forthcoming romance movie starring Craig that will be released in limited United States theaters on November 27, 2024, from A24.

Now, per Deadline, Craig and Guadagnino may be reteaming for the DC flick.

According to Deadline, no official deal has been signed between DC Studios, Craig, and Guadagnino at this time; however, should everything come to fruition, Sgt. Rock could very well be the next movie that Guadagnino makes, meaning this would come before his American Psycho remake.

What else do we know about the Sgt. Rock movie?

The script for the Sgt. Rock movie is written by Justin Kuritzkes, who also wrote Challengers and Queer. No other casting or plot information is available at this time.

Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, Sgt. Rock first appeared in DC Comics’ Our Army at War #83, which was published in 1959. The character is a World War II soldier who is known for his combat skills, near-perfect accuracy, calm demeanor, and more. Evil Dead actor Bruce Campbell recently wrote a Sgt. Rock limited series, Sgt. Rock Vs. the Army of the Dead, for DC that launched in September 2022.

Deadline’s article notes, “The project would indeed rep quite the deep universe departure from Gunn’s upcoming Superman which is expected to kick off his new DC’s Gods and Monsters Phase One, the Supergirl movie and animated series Creature Commandos which is debuting on Max on Dec. 5.”

In addition to Queer, Craig will soon be seen reprising his role as Detective Benoit Blanc in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, also known as Knives Out 3. That film, directed by Rian Johnson, will be released on Netflix in 2025.
